What is probably the most interesting out of the list is Ole 927 coming to Geneseo. I thought the CAF and CWH weren't interested in flying there bombers into grass fields anymore. Too much insurance or safety costs or something like that. But this is great! I'm very psyched to see some pictures of that 24 sitting in Geneseo. Only other time a B-24 was at the show was the CF's All American a couple of years in the 90's?

I can’t help but think the B-24 may operate out of Batavia or Rochester. I hope not.

The B-24 will not be at Geneseo. It will be in Colorado that weekend.

The B-24 'Ol' 927' was the first warbird I ever saw close up- in 1983 it was called 'Diamond Lil' and stayed overnight in Rochester with 'Fifi' the B-29. The year after that I went to the airshow at Geneseo, 30 miles away, for the first time, and it's been all downhill from there. A shame we won't see 'Ol' 927' there this year; airplanes like that belong on grass fields.

Don't mean to rile anything up, but can you elaborate?

Austin, I was being facetious... I've enjoyed all my experience with airshows and old military aircraft... in fact I'm slowly scanning the best of my Geneseo airshow slides, but I've only gotten to 1985 so far.

On behalf of the CAF B-29/B-24 Squadron we would like to apologize for having to cancel Ol' 927 from the show; we were very much looking forward to attending this show, and the the show in Hamilton. Unfortunately when we started examining a commitment for "FIFI" in Colorado, it was decided that we were pushing the limits of the pilots comfort zone flying into this particular field; so we decided that we needed to substitute Ol' 927 for "FIFI". We hope that in the next year or two we will return to Genny.
For those of you wanting to see Ol' 927 she and "FIFI" will be at the American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale during the Memorial Day weekend. We will be offering ride flights and flying over Jones Beach as well.

Everyone fly safe,
Chris

Flyingsailor, thanks for the further explanation. It's a shame it didn't work out this time. Just have them send up Texas Raiders and all will be forgiven.

I like the way you think! TR is no stranger to that field! Neither is Sentimental Journey for that matter. Boy would it be nice to see the CAF roll through with the same size of airpower they used to fly in with back in the 80's, 90's. CWH for that matter too. Maybe the Ole' 927 crew could practice off of Kermit Week's runways. It'd be a start.

It is not a matter of needing practice. As I understand it (aside from having to replace the B-29 in Colorado) the B-24 is not really the best plane to operate off of grass. Those surfaces are not real good for the nose gear on that particular airplane. Just because it has been done in the past does not mean it is a good idea.
