DB605s -Yes several. Some static but some flying-those of the Meserschmitt Foundation come to mind.

Jerry Yagen has an example (ex NMUSAF) being converted to DB power also.

No insight to hand on the difficulties

Dave

Is Yagen's example the one the Air Force Museum built up using a Japanese copy of the DB605 from a Kawasaki Ki 61 Tony? I always thouht that was an amazing story, Spanish and Japanese components painted in German markings.

Yikes! Seriously? That's an incredibly rare engine by itself..seems a bit of a waste using it to "back date" a Buchon. With a couple of Ki-61s currently under rebuilt, I hope the Japanese engine has gone to one of those projects.

@bomberflight: Stunning pictures Peter, saw both last year in September at BoB show, thought it was a pity the tan one wasn´t airworthy at that time. Anyone know which part was missing? Your A2A shots are perfect, would make a nice poster.

@Ryan Keough: Ryan,as several others wrote, there are many conversions of Buchons to Me 109 G standard using DB 605´s. Messerschmitt Stiftung (EADS) has 3 flying examples {at least at some time flying all, at the moment only G-2 and G-10, G-6 is under maintenance.} G-2, G-6, G-10 are flying ones, one static G-2, (and had another airframe, the "original" or 1. FMBB converted, lost in an accident, it had the fin of a Hispano engined airframe), several static ones in Museums. So no problem in converting a Buchon with DB 605 to Me 109 G standard if you ask the right people. Converting with DB 601 would be Me 109 E standard (or possibly F?). AFAIK F would be quite similar to G (basically G was developed from F), to create a Me 109 E would be substantially more difficult, as there are not many parts interchangeable, if any. AFAIK there are none existing flyable 109 E conversion from Buchon. Hispanos were made using blueprints of Me 109 G-2´s and 25 original G-2 airframes , minus fin/rudder, horizontal fin/elevator and minus engine, as templates.

There is a company in southern Germany producing new Me 109 airframes/parts called Hartmair, see Link:

Not that I can read or speak German (and to lazy to use a net translator, I'm more of a picture kind of guy anyway) but that looks like a great project... seems to be on major flaw in the plane and that is the power plant.

Wish I could see the photos. I waited for the page to load then it froze my computer. I tried to refresh the page but then the wix forum font turned really small and a box came up asking me to kill the site. :?: :?
