Scenes from Paine Field GA Day, 2011

Well, after a full week of blue skies the clouds made their way back in for the first main flying event of the NW season. I was stuck at work until 1:00 so I also missed most of the early day flying including the FHC Hurricane, HFF Bearcat & Tigercat and some of the Cascade Warbirds lighter aircraft. I did make it in time to witness the possible highlight of the day...an extremely low dirty pass from one of the DreamLifters. Another highlight was John Sessions and Carter Teeters in the Spitfire and Mustang. Some of the best flying i've seen!
A big thanks to Paine Field, Historic Flight Foundation, Flying Heritage Collection and all the others that made a great event!

Nice work!

I went early, like @ opening, spent a bit over an hour as the ramp was thinner than the mayo @ a Weight Watchers meeting and the weather was low and cold and windy, that was too bad as we just came off several very nice, warm days earlier in the week.
I took several pix of the FLAK 88's (which everyone seemed to be ignoring) and the restored ball turret. Shot the two R/STOL P master 337's (and every 337 mod induced scar on both arms itched remembering just how much 'fun' they were to modify) strange to see 1 modified P Master let alone 2 as they never were very prominent even in their day (I think we did two P Masters in 6 years @ R/STOL MSD and maybe six total 337's), took a few shots of the JODEL 11 (interesting, looked like the box a THORP T-18 is shipped in, appreciate the owner flying up from Oregon and the airplanes abilities) and it was time to get my hat-too wet and too cold, never went to the West side. Had other errands to run in town before heading back up I-5 to home. (drizzled all the way home too)

And THAT, my friend, is the best looking L-17B you'll see...and aside from the 225 up front (instead of the 205 it had coming out of the Army/Swivel-Chair Patrol), it's probably the most original L-17B masqurading as a Navion you'll ever find.

Of course, I'm biased, as N77BH was part of my family for 30+ years and the plane I learned to fly in long before I knew how to drive a car.

When my dad bought it surplus from the CAP in 1967 it still had the US Army data plate in the cockpit. When we sold it to Bill Lattimer several years back we did so on the agreement that it would be put back into it's 'stock' configuration. And as Bill got into it with his restoration, they still found all the original stenciling under the upholstry in the cockpit.

It's also a former Tallmantz camera plane.

Thanks to Bill Lattimer for taking such good care of her. She's still a part of the family.

The TUDOR lives just up the ramp and is getting right up to 'empty your bank account' time as the engine is close to overhaul time. I'm sure Bill would entertain purchase inquiries-

I think the guy that owns the TUTOR used to have a Vampire that he used as a partial trade for the TUTOR.

What's the story on the Spitfire? Who owns it? What markings? What model? Why can't I have it for free?, etc.

The Spitfire, Mk.IXe (SL633), is owned by the Historic Flight Foundation (Paine Field), and is painted in original/authentic Czechoslovakian AF markings. I just love it in these markings - something different than the norm, yet accurate, and a very attractive aircraft.
