Back in February I took a weekend trip to Halifax. I made a quick stop by the Shearwater Aviation Museum...

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

I am glad you like the pictures. Even though the collection is small it is very well presented. The location is also very historic being right beside the opening to Halifax harbor where some many convoys were launched across the Atlantic during WWII.

Than ks for posting them Mike.
I love that two-tone grey scheme the RCN had!

Nice pics. Thanks for posting.

The next time I visit the home country, I'll have to stop in and have a look.

I wonder how close they are with the Firefly now?

When I was there they had done an engine run, but discovered a leak somewhere deep in the engine (I don't have details). The repair involved the deep disassembly which you see in the pictures. This is all volunteer work with a team working a day or so a week. If I get back that way I'll be sure to check on it.

The Firefly has been run up 4 times up to this point.
There is actually video up on You-Tube of at least one of the runs.
The problem that they have faced, is that the engine was restored about 10 years ago. In the intervening time a number of seals have dried out and have not swelled like they should have once the engine was run. This has lead to a number of leaks that keep appearing every time they run it. They are now forced to go through the engine again to replace any seals that are leaking.
In addition, the there has been a ignition timing issue that needs to be looked at.
The cooling system has also leaked as well after it has been run.
The plan is still to fly the aircraft , but I would expect that this will happen later in the year (September).
