This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

If we count former astronauts ...
to add to what other have said...William Anders has built a museum around the planes he owns...everything from a F-51, to a PT-19 to a Bell 47...and a static F-89.
http://www.heritageflight.org/content/collections/I'm embarrassed I didn't think of Borman and his Mustang. I interviewed him about it twice. He and his wife are very nice folks.

Don't forget that Borman also owned an F-86, P-63, and a Waco.

Borman's F-86 came from the Klingon (Dorn) and is now with the Friedkin family.

Stephen Coonts author of Flight of the Intruder has a Stearman called "Cannibal Queen" that he flew around the country with his son. He wrote a book about the adventure by the same name as the plane.

Makes you wonder why Ford would stop there and not get another warbird. Another guy who surprises me is Travolta. If i'm not mistaken he's more into commercial jets and smaller leir jets. I guess Tom Cruise wins with a true P-51 warbird

Travolta had a DeHavilland Vampire but I'm not certain if he flew it himself or not. I'm sure others here can fill in the details.

JT bailed on the Connie and sold his Vampire a long ago. He came thru CAE here in DFW land and was typed in the Challenger 601 which he just brought.
Russ Francis had a Sea Fury as well at one time....

On the subject of race car driver's, former Chaparral Cars owner Jim Hall had a P-51 in the late 50s. Indy racer Rex Mays a P-38, and Le Mans/ GP driver Ron Flockhart a pair of Mustangs. Also racing driver Briggs Cunningham is reported to have co-owned a P-51 with Sherwood Johnston (possibly N5429V or N6319T).
