is it just me or does the f16 seem to be making a little more that idle thrust?

Wishing for the pigtails to get full reverse.....

Glad the Fury seems to be allright. isn't this it's second accident in two years?

The unique FJ-4B Fury is one of my favorite flying vintage jets. I hope it is in reasonable condition and will be flying again soon.

It is the second incident in the last 2 1/2 years or so. The last incident was an inadvertent gear up landing at NAS Pensacola, FL.

The Fury actually looked like it rode that out pretty well- give it a cursory check and I'm gonna guess it'll be just fine. That F-16, however... not so much. Watching the video, and not knowing much about Oshkosh's runway, did he and his wingman set them down a bit late?

The trailing link gear of the FJ has a lot to do with it being able to handle the soft, bumpy ground off the end of the runway.

As for the F-16, the EPU would have kept the necessary stuff working, but if it was a sudden brake failure, he may have been more concerned with keeping the plane going in a straight line in case he lost hydraulics too than getting the engine shutdown. The overrun was fine until he hit the soft ground at the bottom of the "ramp" that leads up to the runway where the nose gear proceeded to dig in.

You Tube Blurb on the FJ video mentions landing with the wind along with typical heat and humidity.
Unsure how much of an effect that was.
Lets be careful out there.

Rich, according to the FAA, the wind was calm at the time of both accidents.

F-16 Accident Time -

Winds picked up later on, but the highest recorded was 9 knots, so while "high", with Runway 36 being as long as it is, it shouldn't have been a contributing factor.

Found this image collection showing the F-16 frame by frame as it goes off the runway. Also look at image 21 which shows the FJ Fury not far from the F-16. There is no comment in the article/text about the FJ, just the F-16.

Al, so how are the night shots coming along??

Hopefully this will post today. Last night I kept getting error messages.

Anyway, thanks for asking. I have some to get around to posting but I haven't been feeling all that well the past couple days and i'm still recovering from throwing my back out about a month ago. It's still weaker than I imagined and lugging my backpack of camera stuff and of course the much needed water it's really taking it's toll. I'm hoping to get out there again tonight to get a few more.

I just looooove how somebody's head gets in the way at just the EXACT instant the F-16 goes into the grass. PERFECT!

That was one hot landing, looks like it was still light on the gear before the nose came down.

Hi All,

Just back from OSH...give me a few moments to get pics loaded.

The FJ apparently is fine other than brakes will need to be redone. My 2nd-hand (3rd-hand?) report was that she landed long, brakes heated, failed, and that's really all that was necessary for the overrun. Brake repair can hopefully be done Saturday for a trip back home Sunday...at least that's the plan.

Swordfish arrived Friday afternoon. Nuff said.

As Tim Savage already mentioned about the Tri-State P-40M, she's not ready to go flying yet. Somebody just jumped the gun with a prediction; no need to get excited.
