Aero Union P-3's grounded again?

Fri Jul 29, 2011 4:24 pm

The U.S. Forest Service announced today that it has terminated its contract with Aero Union of Sacramento, Calif., because the company failed to meet its contractual obligations.

Sounds like a continuation of the fight Aero Union's been waging over the FAA's little post-facto change of the inspection program definitions that led to their grounding earlier this year. I suspect Aero Union will be fighting this one vehemently both with the USFS and FAA .

So what happens to the P-3s? Will someone like Neptune Inc be allowed to purchase and operate them, or does the Navy step in and demand they be scrapped?

...and the USFS fiddles while the American west burns. :? So how many helicopters with Bambi buckets does it take to replace one P-3?

Such sad news. I hope everyone from AU can find work, and soon. Bad time to be unemployed. :(

Dont forget us poor souls here on the east coast. We have a 7000 acre swamp fire here. Nothing like a good 3 or 4 month long peat fire. Last night there were 4 helos with the buckets based at my home field SFQ. Not a plane to be found.

I imagine a lot of the spares will be heading North of 49.
Don't know about the airframes though, the 'restricted' CofAs may doom them to the cutter's torch :( .

Has anyone heard anything about the results of the auction? Like who bought the aircraft.
