I don't believe there is any particular connection between a presidental library and the quality (or lack thereof) of a president.

Not a flame, but Chris, I think that your commentary was a bit off topic and unfair. Nobody here is talking about the qualities of any of the former Presidents, but I think we have all been focused on the former AF1 at the Reagan library and the possibilities of other aircraft finding homes in the future at other Presidential Libraries. Congress provides startup funding for all of the libraries, that is coupled with private funding to build and staff the libraries and museums. The logic behind such a step is that they are all considered branches of the National Archives, the final repository of all Presidental papers. A good investment in document preservation, and as a historian/archivist it is neat to me that the NA is willing to spread the papers/artifacts around the country instead of leaving them all in Washington. A victory for the taxpayers!

I don't mean to stear the thread off topic, I just think that historic aircraft belong in an air museum over a library dedicated to the President.

Usually I would agree with you on that premise. I do think that there are some notable exceptions. As an aviation enthusiast, I like the idea that more folks might get exposed to historic aircraft than those that choose to wander into air and space museums. If this gets non-airplane folks to see a historic airplane, to enjoy/appreciate an airplane and to maybe become airplane enthusiasts, why not sprinkle a few historic aircraft around in really great, really well-done, really preservation-minded museums?

Plus, it's a very low time extremely well looked after airframe, and being inside out of the elements means it will be around for a long, long time, and the way it's displayed it looks like it's about to bust through the glass and head off for another important event.

An LBJ H-34, used when he was the VP, is on display at Pima.

Actually, the VH-34 at Pima is mainly from Eisenhower's Presidency. Although it probably did extend into the Johnson VP era. Our VC-140 is Johnson Presidency era, the VC-118 is Kennedy and Johnson, and the VC-121 is Eisenhower's from his time at SHAFE.

There was an article in today's NYT about the Nixon and Reagan libraries; the Nixon Library has the VH-3 he used when he resigned the office. In addition, doesn't the Reagan library have one of the F-14's from the Gulf of Sidra incident?
