Doolittle raid B-25 in Russia?

I watched the Doolittle Raid show on the Military Channel last night and think they said one of the B-25s landed in Russia (Vladivostok?) and the crew was held for a year. If this is the case, does anyone know what became of the plane?

Any effort ever made to retrieve any of the wreckage of any of the planes that landed in the water or for that matter, the ones that crash landed on terra firma other than Ruptured Duck?

(sorry for the vagueness...half asleep when I watched the show and only one cup of coffee this morning so far

Thanks Ryan...that link does look promising...just gotta find a couple hours in a day to go over there and do some reading.

Davem2...sorry, I am sure you meant no disrespect at all with your reply, but with all of the paint job discussions and such that go on here on the WIX, I don't spend a whole lot of time here anymore. My intent was to possibly pull some members away from all of the gnashing of teeth and somehow start a warbird discussion. My bad.

No problem, people tend to forget that the forum has been going for over a decade (or don't know) and nearly all the obvious questions have been asked many times before. There are a lot of gems if you search for them, which really should be one of the first options used by everybody - it is a good habit to get into IMO ( and I don't mind reminding people of it :wink:

It's always nice when a new post is made at the end of an old thread. Then all that previous info gets bumped for us to enjoy and it keeps there from being multiple threads on the same topic.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. An intact Doolittle raider MUST be the "Holy grail" of American aviation history. Could you imagine the excitement if one was found? I personaly think that WIX would explode!

Yes that would be quite wonderful to find one of the Doolittle B-25s. That is not somethign I've ever read about, where the crash sites were located. I've got an Osprey book on the subject, but just have not read it yet.
