Crash is a term newspapers and TV News uses.
To the FAA and NTSB aircraft don't crash they have accidents and can be destroyed, substantially damaged or maybe it's just an incident where it overran the runway and suffered a gear collapse after going through the perimeter fence.
Also pilots aren't killed but are fatally injured. I guess there is a difference.
