Do you REALLY like warbirds?

I flew with a guy this past week who loved Mustangs so much that he got a tattoo to prove it.

I have worked many 12+ hour days on my warbirds, have many clothes with oil on them, have tasted 100LL, have a very sweaty flight suit from those many hours of warm summer flying, have lost blood from those airplanes, and have enjoyed the whole process.

If you can't call that passion, I don't know what you can!

I named my old CJ-5 Jeep 'Ridge Runner' after a P-51 in California (there were no good Corsair/4 wheeling names that I knew of)....

My date the other night walked into my apartment and saw my decor....warbird pics and models...and said "Obsess much?"

I once jokingly threatened to reveal a certain famous photog's secrets unless he sent me a pic off his website....he sent me the pic...it hangs on my wall now...

But no Tattoos...YET...

I know I possibly risk offending somebody, but.... tattoos are ridiculous, even if it is a warbird. That's one fashion I can't wait until it goes out the window. It looks like a 2 year old with a set of crayons went to work. Save the artwork for the cowl!

Well, maybe if Robert Taylor were the tattoo artist!

Would my bank statement suffice?

Over the years I must have shed a couple of pints of blood from all the nicks, cuts and gashes I've received from working on twisted metal, flying in, or simply cleaning the darn things. It's amazing how many sharp edges there are even in a pristine flying warbird... not to mention what happens when you try and restore one with lots of broken, jagged edges..... still come back for more though... it's the only drug I can't resist!

Cheers, R.

Chuck -I am joking, ok?

I LOVE warbirds, but not to the point to get half-naked dudes showing me their tattoos : )

Saludos!

Tulio's right, Chuck...you do need to be a bit more selective.

If you're accepting some guy's invitation to disrobe so he can "show you his artwork," next time make sure it's a radial. :P

As for sacrifices made for warbirds: Blood spillage is nothing...It's those sheet metal slivers under the fingernails that I just can't get enough of.

Next.
