No OLeary did, of course. My stuff was in FlyPast and Pacific Flyer around October of 93, but I wasn't good enough to get on the cover. :( That day, August 5, 1993 was another lucky break. My friend talked me into going to the airport that day and we ran into Ross Diehl who was going up that day with George Rivera. He knew me and decided he needed some pictures and I just happened to be there. I missed the first flight because my connection at Tallichet's had been fired a few weeks before, so nobody contacted me.

To what extent was the CAF B-26C Carolyn destroyed? Were there any pieces left worth savalging like a vertical stabilizer or something? :?:

there is a thread on that already. people freaked when i asked. there's not alot left but there was a pic posted. i'm surprised no one has had anything to say about this other b-26 in france.

It would be nice to know if that B-26G survived somewhere, thus adding to the pool of potential flyers. (Especially since the G model was the tamest to fly.) :wink:

I have previously copied the same pics into other B-26 survivor threads as this fuselage is apparantly missing its cockpit so it, the Watsons Lake Cockpit and the PNG airframe would be a great 8th project outcome.

It apparantly had its cockpit removed to complete one of the three that Tallichet did recover:

I'm getting really confused. I used to have all these survivors sorted back when I was writing and hanging at Chino ( as imentioned here), but haven't kept up. 1459 is at Maps. 1464 is at FOF in Polk City and was restored with the nose of 1501. One of the Pallisades noses, I think the Carolyn sister is the one at Hill and will be incorporated into the remains of the Alaska wreck 1370. I saw that nose outside at Hill in 07. So my question is: if the third fuselage is still in the valley left alone, what on earth is at Pima??? I've seen it listed as being 1501. The nose would have to be the other nose from pacific palisades. Pima states it is on loan from Tallichet, it can only be the third airframe, Tallichet did not have any others, a crew must have been sent after these aerial pics were shot.

There's a third nose as well, that came from a movie lot, pretty sure Carl Scholl now owns this. It has holes cut in it for cameras , so it isn't a part of any of these restorations . I used to spend time around it and the Hill nose a lot back in the day.

Yep I have that book as well. Ihave pictures of the third nose I mentioned, I think it was from MGM movie lot. It has parts of it cut away for cameras, so its not intact like the Patterson backyard noses.

You are thinking of the former flyer Kermit's 1464 -it has the nose of 1501. When it landed it nosed over , crushing the nose and the crew was ejected. It's amazing they were not killed, they only suffered minor injuries. I'm saying the Pima unit has to have one of the Patterson noses. I saw and have pics of the other Patterson nose at Hill. So both camper bomber noses from the Palisades are now moved out of Ocotillo Wells.

I'm curious on whatever became of the B-26 that was used as a test bed for the B-47s landing gear. IIRC, it was facetiously nicknamed the "Middle River Stump Jumper". It obviously survived the mass scrappings at the end of the war. If a plane survived the mass scrappings, the odds of its survival increased dramatically.

I'm also still hoping that the Baltimore that was given to a local trade school after the war will still turn up in a junkyard somewhere in the area.

Thanks for that 2007 pic. I think I can figure this out from here . I saw and have pics of the Hill nose, in Jan 2007. It just got there. I recognized it right away- I'm 90 percent sure it's the same one I was around every week at Chino This is the 075 Carolyn sister nose. The one here in October 07 has to be the now at Pima nose. There are only 3 noses total so this is not hard: The 2 camper bombers from Tallichet and the MGM partial movie nose. The latter would need a ton of new parts to be fabricated to make it into a complete nose again. It's not worth it when you have the two intact Patterson noses. I'm away from home all weekend so sorry I don't have access to my old or new pics or articles.

I believe that the nose section we have a Pima is one of the Palisades noses. I don't remember the serial number right off hand. It definately was not in Chino in 2007. We got it in 2004. Tallichet had it and all the other Marauder parts with a group in New York before they were moved here.

Correct James. Only one of the two Patterson noses was at Chino in the last 23 years and it's the one at Hill. The other was stored at one of Tallichet's other locations.
