Re: Do you "dream" warbirds?

I often dream of flying, but I'm rarely in a plane. My subconcious mind seems to have no concept of physics, but a basic understanding of finance.

Had one last night. I was driving in the country on a back road in the daytime in farm country in heavy trees in springtime. It was the kind of scene Norman Rockwell would love. So going along, I was looking for someplace. I could see a barn and farm house off to the right and suddenly I looked to my immediate right and saw what looked like an unpainted airliner fuselage pointing to the road at a right angle. As I got a more a view of the side, it looked like a giant helicopter body (sort of a mutant Chinook, but about 3 times the size, about the size of a C-17 fuselage) with the engines and rotors taken out and fared over, in bare metal and very clean looking. Along the top, a restaurant was built into the upper portion along the back with windows. The dream moved on to something else at that point. Beats me what the deal was with that. If I were seeing a therapist, I guess I’d ask them about this as I have no clue what these ‘abandoned airplane and railroad’ dreams mean.

I fly a lot in my dreams and not dog fighting but lots of fun aerobatics, not competitive but just using up the sky.

When I was racing, I always dreamed of driving but the reoccurring dream was with cars but I was always running! Really pi$$ed me off. The competition was in 600 hp cars and I was in frigging jogging shoes!!! :drink3:

I hadn't thought of this in years, but I think around junior high, I had this recurring dream where I was running and was able to keep my feet from toching the ground, like I was bouncing off an air current about an inch off the ground. Yeah, I know, the movie, "Remo Williams" did this, but this was before I'd ever seen the film. But for years, I had this nagging wonder in the back of my mind as to if that actually happened, it took me a long time to convince myself it hadn't really happened, but the memory of it was so flipping strong.

I have had some great airshow dreams, much better than real airshows.
Saw some incredible B-58 high speed runs, and heavy bomber formations that you'd only see in a dream. Most of them start off kind of hazy and pointless, as if I'm just walking down a street, and all of a sudden aircraft will start making passes. I think, "Wow ! I didn't know there was an airshow today", and sit back and watch pass after pass.
Unfortunately, they almost always take a dark turn. An aircraft will crash, I usually can see is spiraling or fluttering down, but I rarely see the impact, just a smoke column.
I race towards the wreck, but always wake up before I arrive.
[Have only seen 1 crash in real life, probably mid 1990's, a T-33 in Thunderbird colors suffered a fatal crash at Selfridge ANGB, MI. All other acts cancelled, with the exception of the Blues, who flew the missing man maneuver in honor of the deceased pilot, Ray Mabery ].

Oddest aircraft dream I had involved taxiing. It started out as an F-14 trying to taxi down busy streets, and I was guiding it, stopping traffic and moving obstructions. Took an even more bizarre turn when I ended up in a mall, trying to guide a taxiing F-4 Phantom.

When I discovered what happened to my granduncle, the hair on the back of my neck stood up because what I read, was exactly as I had dreamed for several years. I still have those dreams and everyonce in a while, i will dream I am in a bar and my uncle comes walking in and we catch up over some beers and scotch.

Wow, that is really quite freaky. It certainly makes you wonder, doesn't it?

That sounds amazingly like the dreams I have, as described earlier. Wierd stuff, the subconscious mind.

Therapist says it is just a phase that I am going through! Seriously, yes I do dream about the Corsair in the local lake and the P-40 in the southern U.S. Just when the dream starts to get good, like when I make a strafing run or line up for a bombing run, the stinking alarm clock goes off. Every time. Eventually I'll complete the mission :drink3: :drink3:

Had one last night...I'm flying a Harvard, below me were some WWI type but early mono wing. Then I looked up and at 12 o'clock was a group of over 200 aircraft from prop driven to an F-15. I have to start drinking a better quality booze I think. But the flying was dead nuts real. My wife is a therapist but I don't want an answer. :drink3:
