I'd like to know too, Steve. The latest update, that I've seen, remains the photo-compilation that was posted by Max Haynes almost exactly a year ago (http://vimeo.com/21704963) - the link with photos posted by TriangleP are a bit older. I believe it was mentioned that the center section is the single most complex and lengthy portion of the airframe to rebuild/restore (with all of the plumbing and wiring that goes into it as well), and I believe it was very near/on the verge of completion when these latest update-photos were taken around this time last year, having been far enough along by that point, that it was mated with the two fuselages (which also seemed very close to completion and fitted out themselves (with the exception of mounting the engines and cowl-work)). Note too, in one of the photos, the horizontal sitting in its jig, waiting to be mounted to the airframe. While I'm not expecting to see it at Oshkosh this year, what an amazing surprise it would be if it did show up! A couple of years ago it was announced through EAA, that both of the P-82 projects would debut together at the Oshkosh 2013 air show, but the C&P example has been quite a bit further along than the other.

There are some neat photos from the C&P hangar also posted here, but these photos were taken over two years ago (but even then, you could see how far along portions of the project were already): http://minnesotawingblog.blogspot.com/2 ... rkers.html

C&P also own P-51D Ridge Runner III, which they brought to Oshkosh last summer (and there was a rumor they also have a P-51H project (also as of last year), though I don't know if that was confirmed or not).

The records show these 2 Mustangs
I thought I had read somewhere the only thing holding the project up was the Lefthand prop and that was being made last year.

One of the updates on the Tom Reilly P-82, showed the arrival of the MT-produced prop blades a few months ago, so I would assume the C&P example has their set as well...and both projects seem to also have both sets of engines they need, also covered. And thanks for the confirmation on the P-51H project!

In the spirit of keeping my hopes up I'm going to surmise that the reason that the updates have quit coming is because C&P wants everybody to be blown away when the airplane shows up at Oskosh this year! :D

Thank goodness for the internet & digital photography - 2 technologies that allow us to see what's going on behind the scenes in hangars around the world. Seeing the Twin Mustang(s) and the MAAM P-61 fly one day will be a real hoot.

Thank you for going straight to the source of the photos/updates, TriangleP! I don't know if it is even close to reaching the point yet, but it reminds me of the saying, about the last 1% of the restoration work taking 99% of the time. I continue to enjoy looking at the same photos over and over again of this particular aircraft, as the quality of work is just so nice - it is awesome to see that photo with one of the engines in!

Yes, it will be amazing to see two P-82s and a P-61 flying one day. Simply incredible.

Does anyone know if Reilly and C&P are cooperating in any way, ala B-17 Co-Op? And does the C&P aircraft have any significant history? What's the sn#?

I have a dream...

No, no; not THAT dream.

I have a dream...an all-nightfighter airshow dream: Coupla' P-82s, toss in a P-61, a smattering of F4U-5s and F7Fs, and maybe an A-20 sprayed like a P-70 with some extra aerials poking out of it.

Add some Flugwerk FW190s in Wildesau paint...maybe a Me-262 replica with some antlers...

Anybody pay cash money to see that at your favorite airshow?

Hey Dan,

You've got a good idea there. A combination Heritage & Legacy Flight formation of P-82s, a P-61, and F4U-5NL making the standard HF flight passes at dusk!

I'm willing to let Mossies attend the dream IF the Canadians bring the Lancaster along (so the Luftwaffe has something to chase around).

Great idea! Add Jerry Yagen's Mosquito to the pile! Richard Moore of the 416th Night Fighter Squadron USAAF, flew night fighter, radar equipped NF.30 Mosquitos in Italy and lives in Arizona, and James "Lou" Luma (USAAF) flew FB.VI Mosquitos in the 418 Squadron RCAF doing Night Intruder Missions over France and Germany, racking up 5 kills. He's currently our only surviving American Mosquito ace.

That would have been neat to honor an American Ace, in the RCAF, flying a British aircraft. But from what I have seen in magazines Gerald is going with a RNZAF Mossie flown on the Amiens Raid. Perhaps, one of the most famous Mosquito raids of the war.
