O/Hed by Tulsa in 1982. 0.0 SMOH at the moment.
Lead bearings sometimes can have issues from sitting a long time.
We're returning to Tulsa so they can do an IRAN and replace any leaded bearings.
Hopefully it won't take much to freshen it up.

Thank you, are you all going to do anything to the airframe or just make it as stock much as possible?

Currently we plan on a stock look as much as practical.
Since we have photos in the Pilots Introduction to the SNJ-3 book we have an idea of how it looked and will work to duplicate that.

It will no doubt be a show stopper. Are the center section and the horizontal areas around the tail feathers where you will find the most corrosion? Please keep the updates coming...

Thanks

The hired help worked to get the FWF apart this week. The mount was reluctant to move from its current location.
When last painted the interface areas were given thick coats of paint and was stuck in place.
We loosened the mounting bolts and had about 3/16" of movement avail but with the nuts still in place so nothing would get tweaked and the mount wouldn't launch across the hangar.
Image
We applied pressure to pull the mount off by hooking the forklift to the airframe by the towbar. 2 straps were attached and run to the mast. We lifted the tail off the ground a little, applied heat, rivet gun vibrations, ect and it wouldn't budge.
Image
I added some weight to the tail and proceeded to lift the front of the fork lift off the ground.
Image
Continued tension, Kroil, heat and muscle it eventually moved some.
Image
It took more effort than I thought but it moved.

When the forklift was doing a wheelie pulling on the engine mount I was certain that Rich contracted with ACME products to get this motor mount off. This business card seems most appropriate for Rich:

Isn't it perplexing when things that should come apart relatively easily, don't?

Usually due to human involvement.

Hey Rich,
You need a Skyraider and then you could have hooked that mount to the tailhook and yanked her right off!! :)

On a related note, the last time I unwrapped something that had been in storage like that (DC2 part), it was wrapped in newspaper.. & the headline was the fall of Stalingrad :)
