The remains of #94 are buried near me at Hopkins Airport after she was used for fire practice. Quite a few parts of #94 were "saved" before the fire and are in private collections........(not mine...drats!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Kenn

I heard that parts were buried, and I've heard (more) that its just a rumor and no parts were buried. :drinkers: :?

While I took no photos, as far as I can remember, I was in Enid, OK., when Doug got his F2G. It DID fly in there, and was sitting on the ramp when I saw it. This was mid-70's, when I was a student at OSU not far away in Stillwater (ironically where Paul Mantz bought 475 aircraft, and saved a few, including both P-51Cs that Mermit Weeks has now, as well as the NASM's!).
So now the odd part: that F2G had a large, aluminum plate duct-taped to the top of the left wing when it flew in!! It was covering the area that was originally fabric-covered. I'm sure it was actually riveted onto the ribs, but it had duct-tape covering all the edges! I'm dead serious about this, as I talked to Doug about it at the time.
I was also there as Doug was shipping off his FW-190D-13 to Germany, and DID get a lot of photos of that plane, before it went off for it's first rebuild.

I can confirm the story of the Puckett ferry flight.
Ron told the story in Trader Jon's with Cook Cleland
some years ago. I was a very quiet fly on the wall...

I can't confirm, but I'm pretty sure there was a secret tunnel connecting Trader Jon's with Cook's antique shop in Pensacola.....

Those were some fun days when I was stationed there...in hindsight I wish I had spent more time at both places. But some good memories none-the-less.
