This aircraft looks quite strange with its camo (never seen a WWII photo of it) and its longer canopy.
Is it an original field mod (1) arrangment (Zero twin-seaters looked quite different) or a post-war civil modification ?


(1) some A6M2 were converted to twin-seaters at Rabaul.

IIRC only model 21s were converted. There is a nice two seater recovered from the sea back in the 70s on display in Japan.

It looks great! Would love to fly it, or even just see it fly would be neat. Okay, is this one of the russian rebuilds, with an R-1830 engine? If so, would this be an aircraft the museum would consider flying a bit more, maybe even outside of it's zip code?

Ironically, the two seat Zero displayed in Japan was recovered from Rabaul Harbor in the 70s...salt water immersion and all ( though it was only down there for 30 years)
