I totally agree with this. I don't think a company should use a living person's name and accomplishments for promotional purposes without their permission, CY was well within his rights IMHO there.Well-know warbird pilot Ray Fowler told CY exactly that. He related this to me personally in 1996, so it'd been within a year or two of that.

As long as it is Civil, I see no problem with people having an opinion and stating it.

This is America after all, and one of the things that, at least some of us, have fought for is the right to say what we want as long as it is not libelous or slanderous.

There are a lot of threads I don't read. They simply don't interest me. Others I find interesting. At times I respond or add too the information/opinions in that thread.

But at no time have I ever thought a thread should be deleted simply because it violates MY sensitivities.

Well then maybe a move to the off topic section would be more appropriate since his legal dealings have absolutely nothing to do with warbirds. To me it looks just like another opportunistic wix bashfest on the man, once again.

I will admit I piled on. Something about CY gets to me I will admit it. I've witnessed his poor behavior first hand and know plenty of others who feel the same way. I just avoid him now. The final straw came when he wrote an editorial piece for Flight Journal calling for all warbirds to be grounded because they were flown by a bunch of rich folks and kept crashing them at places like Reno. Funny he didn't feel that way till after he wiped out a T 6 and wrecked his relationships with the people that let him fly their warbirds...
My last post on this thread and CY.

If I ever become famous, I promise to do the following: treat everyone with respect and dignity; sign autographs for anyone who asks, without asking for anything in return or giving them a hard time; shamelessly promote WIX!

I never met Chuck Yeager, but I've never heard much good said about him. I read his autobiography, and it paints a picture of a man who's really stuck on himself. He did a lot of interesting things in his career, I'll give him that much. I met Gregory Boyington; he was pompous, arrogant, and rude, and because of that attitude, he wasn't selling many books. I met Paul Tibbets; he was pleasant, friendly, and approachable. I met Masao Kawato (sp?); he was also a nice fellow. I've met many active duty US and Canadian military pilots over the years; they've all been cool dudes who seem to like interacting with the public (despite some having an obviously strong self-opinion, which was quite possibly justified). There are good eggs and bad eggs out there. Don't let the bad ones get you down. Brush 'em off and go find someone friendly.

As we go through life, we must strive to treat others the way we would like them to treat us. Sometimes that's a tall order, but we must try. Rock on, WIXers!

I am on record as thinking CY is an absolute putz when it comes to dealing with anyone besides himself. But I also agree that he's in the right here, as do several other people. And I've learned something- namely, that Neil Armstrong won't even sign a check nowadays (which honestly, is sort of depressing as he's someone I'd really like to meet and have sign one of the books about rockets and space I had when growing up).

As to wiping out the T-6, I think the word we're looking for here is "schadenfreude". The one and only time I flew a T-6, I couldn't keep that thing straight on the runway to save my life- granted, I didn't have any experience, but the lesson I took away from that was it can get away from you in a half second if you're not careful or don't know what you're doing. Ol' CY has spent so long drinking his own Kool-Aid that when he makes an expensive (and all too easy to make) mistake, people are naturally going to gloat a little. Not because the plane was damaged, of course, but because EVERYONE is human, including those who think they're somehow better than the rabble.

Anyways, to sum up, I think it's fair to say just about everyone likes pie.

Page 162 of the autobiography "Yeagar" when asked by Neil Armstrong about signing autographs, paraphrasing CY..Neil don't get no signing machine, even if you take the rest of your life you got to sign those autographs personal. Don't sound like either one of them obeys that rule.

Well the autograph thing I will say something about. While in college I was a manager of a store thaat dealt in autographs. There is some real shady business that goes on in the autograph world. CY didn't charge anything at all to sign for a long time. Then one day he signed a model for a guy who said it was for his sick son at home, and the guy walked a few feet away and sold it to someone else. That did it for that. I talked to him about it and he said, I get pissed when guys send their kids up for autographs and the kid doesn't know who I am, why they want my autograph, and could care less. Then you turn around a day later and see the thing you just signed on ebay.
