Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:27 am

Some idea about those parts? Came from a Luftwaffe crash site in south Italy, 25 km sout of Salerno (perhaps crashed 27 sept 1943 after shot down A-36 of lt Gossett). As soon as possible I'll post other fragments.

SAUERSTOFF means either 'corrosive' or 'ACID' and the only aircaft that comes to mind that flew carrying any acids was the Me-163 KOMET so ???????

This is from a friend of mine via Facebook:

After some reasirch I can confirm: The factory only made parts. The oxygen plate is probably from the high altitude oxygen system and the 2nd plate is probably from Radio Equipment. the factory in Hakenfelde made radio equipment and a few other parts (but i cant find what). so they did not create planes there. (there was another factory in berlin tough that made most of the famous planes like the 190,109 and some jets). So i think it's a part of a fighterplane =] one of 3 haha

more info from wikipedia XD

it's about the airplane factory in berlin.

Weserwerke started war production in a new building for assembling Junkers Ju 87 "Stuka" dive bombers and later Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighter planes in Tempelhof's underground tunnels. Aircraft engines were trucked to Tempelhof and joined to finished airframes. The airport is the hub of a "hub and spoke" arrangement of underground tunnels, and parts for the airplanes were brought from all parts of the city to the air base to be assembled and then flown out. Germany did not use Tempelhof as a military airfield during World War II, except for occasional emergency landings by fighter aircraft.

so theres a high chance the plane was a FW-190 or a Stuka =]

All credit goes to Bas Smit. lol

Before you all get yourselves tied in knots,

First item is the face off the Fl.30496 Oxygen Pressure gauge, a common item to many Luftwaffe Aircraft,
Second item is the data plate from the EDSK-B Elektrisch Durchladeschaltkasten, this is an electronic box that controlled the electric loading of the MG151/131 Cannons. I know the EDSK-B is used in the 190 and 109, I believe it could however be used in other aircraft too

Thank. I hope to post photos of other fragments we find. We find a lot of fragments but not 1 (one) bullet. Do you know if german fighters expulse all fired ammunition??

The 109 both retained and expelled its empty cases and links depending on the weapons fit!

The FuG 16Z was a fighter-specific radio unit, if memory serves correctly, so that helps further narrow things down... between the MG 151 EDSK and this radio debris, it's looking more like an Fw 190 or Bf 109F/G.

Cheers,

Lynn

Would it be possible to see some aircraft parts, this would make sorting out 109 from 190 much easier ;)

Lovely Stuff,

It's a 109 Probably a G-6 judging by the year, 151/131, radio fit and the tyre size.
The other items you show are the leading edge of the wing with the legend that the largest tyre size is 669x160mm, another radio data plate, an aneroid capsule (instrument, boost or fuel control), and a revi hatch thumb button (push to open the hatch)
lovely items!

Many thanks for all informations. We had find 2 crash site or USA aircraft in this place, Acerno, 25 km south\east from Salerno.

One is B-24 of lt. Prchal, shot down 11 jan. 1943 (see our reportage here http://www.1943salerno.it/ritrovamenti/54-il-consolidated-b-24-liberator.html)

The other is A-36 of lt. Gossett, shot down 27 sept. 1943 (see our reportage here http://www.1943salerno.it/ritrovamenti/58-il-cacciabombardiere-north-american-a-36a-apache-42-83976.html

In the MACR about lt. Gossett we are unable to read reason of crash. However in the report about Prchal shot down we read in the book LIBERANDOS, p. 92, that bombers were attacked by a Me109 tha was shot down after he shot down Prchal and Payne aircraft. Perhaps this can be aircraft we find? Do you have any news about Me109 shot down 11 january 1943? Thanks.
