Hey Jerry, If The Good Colonel had his way, would have that pole-siting Corsair sequestered up here in the Republic of Maine right now! You don't know what it took to convince Rob that a whole Corsair WOULD NOT fit on the roof of a Dodge Caravan!

Ronnie Olsthurn forwarded me the weblink below. It's the original F4U-1 Checkout film, with special guest star, the Vought hangar seen during the first few scenes. 
It will surely be Bridgeport's loss to have this icon torn down for commercial reasons. Too bad they couldn't find a way to integrate it into their future plans.
P.S. - Only the US Government could find a way to somehow spend six million dollars a year to maintain a vacant hangar!!!

Someone might wanna alert Gerry Beck that they found the data plate off of his F4U-4......since that's where it came from (one of the last Vought/Connecticut Corsairs built)....

The Id plate pictured above of Buno 97388 X FAH 610 is a poss duplicate/restored cockpit plate. For some reason, before they were exported south by Mr. Bob Bean c. 1958... the main cockpit ID plates were removed. C/w.com

Ok Guys,
Mark Tisler who built this airplane is sitting here with me laughing. That IS the dataplate from Gerry Becks Corsair as it is the one they recieved with the project from Earl Ware and it is an original.

Does he has pics of the ID plate as found? c 1980s? If that is the case FAH 610 may be exception of all the recovered FAH F4U fuselages! Doing more cking. Nice restoration job. C/w.com
p.s The famous FAH609 has a "modification plate" at the cockpit rather than the original Chance-Vought F4U ID plate.

Mark says that when Gerry purchased FAH 610 he is not sure if the dataplate was removed at the time of shipment to Gerry's for safe keeping with other paperwork or after arrival just prior to work beginning like stripping etc... However Mark did get the dataplate from safe keeping and installed it back on the cockpit rail after the area was painted and the holes lined right up without issue. Of note Gerry owned FAH616 and that dataplate had been hacked out of the cockpit area.
