Im going...first time ever for me...

Will help my Dixie Wing colleagues at Fond Du Lac with rides but will likely help out at the rides signup desk one day...hope to see fellow WIX'ers there!

Nice thing about Fond du Lac is that--even though an OSH overflow--it winds up with more aircraft and campers than most fly-ins!

All the Dixie Wingers should take a break Thursday p.m. and come get fed & watered at WIXFEST VII.

I would think some sort of alerting system would be outstanding for most of us who simply enjoy watching such events, but I think your proposal would suffer from a double edged sword more times than not. I would imagine there are folks who would not want too many others knowing of a particular warbird's preflight action or activity at first until those same folks completed their photoshoots etc. Not saying all are that way but you know how some of these "photographers" are about their "space" :wink: ... and then you add the owners/pilots, groundhandlers and crowd control people to the equation. I would assume all those folks would rather most people at Oshkosh not know about pre-flighting until after taxiing simply to keep from any disturbances. Just a thought.


Its gonna be what you said a double edge sword. You are gonna get some buffoons who are not real warbird fans texting about food, texting about a generic aerobatic act, someone bitching that a plane didn't show up, or wasting time with a common warbird like a T-6. If you don't have unlimited free texting, you will get rediculous charges - with that many people there you will get a constant barrage.

Ouch....buffoons who are not "real warbird fans" and those common warbirds like the T-6. Funny, the more I work in, on, and around the T-6 the more enjoyable it gets. The T-6 is a bit more common because it is within the means of the more "common" warbird enthusiast to restore, own and operate. It is still in no way cheap. In todays market, a T-6 can be purchased for the price of a nice 3 bedroom house with a couple acres of land. Whereas the more exotic warbirds can run $500k, $750K, to multi-millions. Not really within a "common" man's means. Personally I love it when a T-6 taxi's by.,

I've seen many a discussion here on this board go off on some off-topic slant, recall discussions of food, generic aerobatic acts, and of course bitching that a plane didn't show up, or wasn't painted like the poster would have liked.

If I make Oshkosh this year, it will be my first time attending. I look forward to walking amoung the rows of T-6's. I will go look at the Mustangs, Cat's and Spits. I will even look at the laison, L-Birds as I would love to be able to find a Piper L4 or Taylorcraft L2 project to restore. I know for a fact that I would not be able afford to operate, let alone purchase one of those "common" T-6's, SNJ's, or Harvards.

So I guess we all all buffoons...or maybe we aren't true "real warbird fans" after all......

In my neck of the woods you could purchase a fleet of T-6's for the price of a nice 3 bedroom house and no acres ... :( My first warbird ride was in a T6, It was at Oshkosh and I loved it. :wink:

I plan to be on the grounds first either Monday or Tuesday (depends on weather), and then again Thursday and Friday.

Don't get me wrong - I love the sound of the T-6 and would love to see one land/take off at Orlando Executive Airport while I am working there but will there be less than 50 at OSH? I don't need 50+ texts every time a T-6 lands/takes off. Is there any WWII era plane more common still flying?

Maybe I should have said L-39 or Nanchang CJ-6 in my example of what a noob would text for everytime one of those landed

A handful mentioned back on page 4 that are hopefuls.

OSH 2011 was supposed to be F2G Race #74's coming-out party, but motor puked. Maybe--just maybe...

Back in March, John Garric's Potez 63 replica was reportedly "close to a first flight". Hard to imagine nobody would've reported it airborne, but...

Don Hansen's Fw 190?

Still haven't heard from Doug what surprise(s) Cavanaugh might supply (hint, hint).

Didn't realize that T-6's were that well represented at OSH. Although I'd watch each one taking off or landing, I have to agree, that would be a mass of text for each individual T-6 movement.

I think I need to start planning my first trip.
