Is there an 8AF history behind that P-51 ?
Unfortunately not, Wade
she's a D-25-NA (44-73349) and one of the last Mustangs to be shipped over to the ETO (DEPUS 450331)- put into storage after VE-Day (didn't get an assignment to a Fighter Group, i.e. never ventured further than BAD-2 Warton) she later was issued as replacement aircraft to the Occupational Air Force in Germany, where she last served with the 33rd FG at R-85 Neubiberg "Camp Rattle". Put (again) into storage at Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich, she was acquired by the Swiss AF during Fall 1948.
J-2113 is, however, one of the last surviving P-51D's in practically unchanged condition since she came out of the factory in 1945 - there were no major incidents in her service life with the USAAF and the Swiss AF, so no major repairs or sheet metal works. She's in pristine condition (I sat in the cockpit a few weeks ago

) and a true gem.
Can't wait to see the prints -
Cheers
Martin
