Shackelton is a neat plane. Thought it was getting a paint job?

IIRC the cobra was at beaver falls for all those years and the guys did a very good job on her. They had all the airacobra spare parts in the world at the time.Thats why there wont be the rebuild effort for cobras that there is of P-40s.What a beautiful aircraft it is.

Are you saying that the parts just aren't available for the P-39, whereas they are available for the P-40? You know, an enterprising guy with a good machine shop could probably make a small fortune (out of a bigger one) manufacturing parts for Aircobra restorations. I think some guys are already doing that in the Curtiss community.

Are there things that can't be fabricated for the P-39? Other than the driveshaft, is it that much more complicated than the P-40?

Bill:

Are these Pima aircraft part of the public museum or off-limits? I ask because I'll be visiting Pima later this week.
Thanks!
Tommy

Tommy, the Hind and the KB-50 are at the restoration hangar and not open to public, but they can be seen at a distance from the public area. The P-39 can be viewed through windows and a door from the public area.
