I agree that it's ugly but it's pretty authentically ugly. The D4Y3 was not a pretty plane! The lines of the cowl and spinner appear to me to mimic the original pretty well.

I hope they figure out some kind of a set-piece for next year's May airshow that somehow combines this taxiing with some aerial action.

I dunno. That one was flyable, and now isn't. While this one wont be flyable either. End result: NOT ENOUGH FLYING JAPANESE WARBIRDS! grrrrrr

Not bashing the great job they did by any means. I just cant wait for more flyable aircraft from the land of the rising sun.

They said it may be a few weeks before the paint job is completely finished because John Maloney will be in Japan with the Zero.

I don't like the stripes on the tug. if you aren't going to do authentic yellow and black, then why bother

Nothing absolves them from selling the "Frank." It was an original authentic Japanese fighter plane with an original engine, aluminum, and cockpit. Maybe the most authentic Japanese aircraft to fly with a civil registration.
It's now a "dead" aircraft in a country quite far from any other warbird activity or enthusiasts. If it had stayed in the U.S. it might have created more interest in Japanese aircraft three decades sooner and we would have had many more types saved.
The Judy looks great. The paint really shows the thin "oil canned" look typical of Japanese aluminum aircraft.

Except that the sale kept the Museum together when the going got rough.

I thought this was an interesting remark. Do you have some examples that have been lost due to missed opportunity or neglect? I'm not trying to be provocative, I'm just curious as I haven't followed Japanese warbirds very closely.
thanks, Ryan

The Judy looks great, the Frank still exists and they never should've scrapped the Enterprise.
Let it go.
Jerry
