Adam,
FYI - Sorry if I'm pointing out the obvious. Hope you are aware the pictures you posted are of two different aircraft.
The first is an N3N and the second is a Waco PT-14.

No need to apologize as I kept looking at his flight log and there was no Waco or Ryan(I have a photo of him in that too) listed. So I just assumed that this photo was a N2S like the log listed. Now, I am beginning to think this photo wasn't even Memphis. He was stationed in Memphis TN and Norman OK for primary school and training and both listed N2S. It is possible that this was a picture of him when he was part of V-5 at Ball State University. Thanks for all your help guys it really helps.

Adam,
My Stearman spent the bulk of WWII as a primary trainer at NAS Norman, OK. I don't have access to my historical documents right now (I'm in Afghanistan) but I should be home in a couple of weeks.
It would be a flying career highlight to find that my ship was annotated in your logbook. Either way, if we ever can get in the same place and time, you've got a N2S ride coming. I'll be at Galesburg, IL next September!

Both my father and uncle who where best friends from the time they met in Norman OK in 1943 and married sisters flew N2S in Norman. I have the signatures of the officers who signed off on his hours, but no plane numbers

I will check my uncles log this Dec as I will be visiting my aunt and see if his has any serial numbers listed. With the haste that they were trying to crank out pilots I'm not sure we will have much luck as details like that seemed pretty unimportant. I may take you up on your offer to fly in your N2S as I have never flown in one and I still have my father's flight jacket which is in pretty pristine condition for 70 years old. I still have relatives in Chicago so well keep in touch. Stay safe.

Adam,
I'm up in WA state, closer from LA than IL if you ever find yourway up here. Otherwise I'm flying the bird XC to IL next year for the National Stearman Fly-In.
