Has anybody seen decent imagery from the excavation site yet? The best I can come up with is this picture (lifted from the Fox News article) of the pictures posted during the recent pres conference ...

It seems much of this could be research material and not new shots from the dig .. it's hard to tell. I've cropped the picture to try and make it less distracting for some, in hopes of keeping the discussion focused on warbirds.

So the straight men in the audience can look her up on the internet I would suspect.

'Cause her image isn't obscured by muddy water?

A slightly different perspective that appeared on the FlyPast Forum thread ...

From the looks of the two left middle images, I think they buried a pilot with the plane    ...

I'm convinced there are no pristine, "put 'em together and fly 'em away" airplanes there, but in my eyes, anything they pull up will be worth the effort and very cool!

Well said. Why some folks have to bash this project is beyond me. I suspect some of the same are interested when a window frame or O2 bottle is pulled from the trash dump at a former 8th AF base in the UK ... so if this guy finds complete airframes or just a handful of bits, either way it is what it is ... good on him for trying.

After studying those pictures I can't tell if it's a boy or a girl!

But right you are Ken. Anything they dig up will be interesting and if it only adds to the worlds supply of throttle controls and escape bars GOOD ON 'EM.

I'm with Ken and spanner. I'm very excited for the man to try and do something he is passionate about :). Even if the parts aren't usable, it still puts one myth down. Because it would be proof either way. I am hoping for the best possible outcome for all parties involved and I am ready to see some spits(or whats left of them).

Gone are the days of epic journeys and adventures in distant far off lands. It's something missing from our modern world. Glad this fellow is chasing rainbows and tilting at windmills...no matter what the outcome is! I hope he finds his pot of gold.

Well, the new numbers came out from our fabulous media, and they said around 140.

Now, lets say half of the Spitfires can only be used for static display due to damage.

That's 70 more flying spitfires and 70 static ones.

Can we loose at all? :D

Surely they've pumped out enough water by now to get some indication of what's in the crate. Maybe I'm just too impatient.
