Warbird Information Exchange

Hey Guys,

So with some of the updates we've been having with the Corsair project, I figured I'd give it a shot and ask the WIX consortium about stencils. I'm currently looking into reproducing nearly all of the stencils for our Corsair and was wondering if anyone had any info on them.

-Size
-Specific Font Type
-Are there any copies available?
-etc.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys!

I figure if you wanted my opinion on items unrelated to this forum, you'd ask for it.

Then, find a still working stencil cutter with the correct fonts, a LOT of oilboard and get ready to face a lot of frustrations getting them all cut, spaced, and spellled correctly.

Hey Chris... just so you know, for the most part, the factory used rubber stamps to mark the Corsair, not stencils. Some of the more complex text sections were made using decals, but for the most part the plane was hand stamped. John Lane used stickers on the Corsair he restored for the Seattle Museum of Flight, but I'm not sure how he finished the Oshkosh winner he made which is now based in Texas.

PS. You should have a full set of drawings, if I remember correctly, and most of the text specifications are in there.

Its really not that hard.


Just picked up another 25lbs of oilboard. With a good Sweet Tea from Mc Donalds and a Corona as a chaser. Put CSNY on the speakers and I can get a lot done with minimal errors

If you are still looking for a source, I can reproduce most stencils in either a decal, or as a paint mask that can be applied, then painted, and then the paint mask removed.

Some examples below.

Eric, Can you do letters up to 4" tall?

Ken,

my cutter is limited to 24" wide material, so I can go up to just slightly under 24". Unless you wanted the letters to be made from more than 1 piece of vinyl.
