I kinda preferred the weathered look myself, but I suppose they have to keep her looking snazzy for the public. And I have to admit, she does look nice.

The writer seems to be under the impression that the Collings B-24 is the actual Witchcraft..but I don't think he's a "plane guy."

I just have to say what a difference!
With that said, I find interesting, that how one of these planes still "Weather" the same as they did back in the day!
But it's 2013, and given she is now a "Show Plane" it would be nice to see her dirty...you know...more like one would have looked like in theatre.
I do find it cool...the before and after shots of the wing.
And thank heavens OSHA never showed up! They would have had a field day! Keeping every body safe..you know?
Gotta love the guy at post #9 hanging on to the top of vertical fin to buff the rudder..."Hey you get down from there and put your PPE and harness on!"

If the person with the polisher knows what they are doing, they do not do any damage to the top coat of paint. they just take the oxidation off of the surface. There would be no limit to the number of times it could be done unless they take off too much color as they are taking the oxidation off. There was 8 years worth of buildup on the paint, and that is all they were removing.

Add me to the list of those deeply impressed by how nice she looks after that work. I, too, like the "grubby" look, but on an aircraft which remains operational, it MUST be cyclical- she has to go get clean once in a while. And boy, did she!

Hi Guys. Thanks for the compliments. We had a blast cleaning her up.

I understand some like the rugged look but if the oxidation is left unchecked then she would need a repaint.

That is what happened with the B-17 "Nine-O-Nine" She needs to be painted. We didn't get to her in time.

I once spent four hours just polishing the prop domes on Witchcraft. Doing the entire airplane would be a monumental job! Great work! She came out looking mighty fine!

By the way, I use exclusively Meguiar's products on my show cars. It's all good stuff!

She's a wonderful bird to work on and the folks at the Collings Foundation have been a dream to work with. We have done this every May for the last four years.
