Where are you located?

In addition to the ones already mentioned, there are a few good independent operators who do training that I have worked with. One is Atlantic Air at New Bedford:

Jonathan Govednik is an excellent instructor and very reasonable rate. He does initial tailwheel endorsemnts in the 170 as well.

There is also a group down in the Norfolk, VA area....bunch of Navy Hornet guys that just started offering training in an SNJ and an L39 this year. Their rates are extremely reasonable. I have their contact info if you need.

If you are in SoCal, Daniel Wotring just started doing instruction in an SNJ as well. Based at FUL.

If you are looking for a 'school' where you are going to travel and lend several days training/flying, I'd go with Gunny at the EFM.

Thanks everyone for helping me in my search! I've decided to go with Warbird Adventures in Kissimmee FL. Thom Richards comes very highly recommended by a number of WIX people and a number of T-6 Pilots and owners!

I'll be going to FL in June and I look forward to relating my experience at taming the Texan!

By the way... I'm looking for Naval Aviation flying equipment from 1938-1942 era. I'm looking put together a complete set of equipment.

If you don't go to an "all in one" shop, you might consider getting your tailwheel endorsement in a J-3 Cub. That's the way I did it and it has a few advantages:

1) Often much cheaper

2) You sit in the back seat - thereby exposing you to the "long nose, cannot see" universe right from the start

3) pretty simple airplane - you can focus on those wheelies.

4) Total gas to fly........

5) .......especially with the door open.
