With P-51C Mustang 'Princess Elizabeth' flying today for the first time since it was shipped to the UK, everything is set for the 'Eagle Squadron' formation display at IWM Duxford this weekend, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the USAAF in Europe.

The 'Eagle Squadron' comprises Hurricane Mk.X, Spitfire Mk.I, P-51C Mustang and P-47G Thunderbolt, with the aircraft flown by Paul Bonhomme, Ed Shipley, Dan Friedkin & Steve Hinton. The formation will display at the Duxford Spring Air Show on Sunday before flying over former USAAF stations in eastern England on Monday.

There'll certainly be plenty of photographs from both the airshow display and Monday's flypast! With the weather being so poor in the UK at the moment, tomorrow's looking like a busy day as the final American pilots arrive! Steve Hinton and Steve Hinton Jr. are already at Duxford; Steve Jr. flew 'Princess Elizabeth' yesterday, between heavy rain showers.

I believe photographer John Dibbs will also be flying air-to-airs with the formation on Monday morning, the results of which will probably appear in 'Flypast' magazine.

Just hope the weather picks up, we've had enough grey clag and rain in the UK to last us a whole year...

Some photographs from today's practice! They flew after Duxford closed to the public so we had to decamp to outside the airfield (hence why most photos of their display were backlit) but it's a superb display with some beautiful flying.

The 'Eagle Sqn' formation with the Red Arrows was pretty cool, and something of a privilege and no doubt quite an experience for Messers Bonhomme, Hinton, Shipley & Friedkin... :drink3:

Two ship tight formation routine from the two C-47's was ace as well 8)

I was also at the event & filmed quite a large proportion of the day including the interview of Col Bud Anderson. I will post it onto the forum in the next few days!
