"VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. —
A Virginia Beach man is selling his historic plane collection and may close a museum that houses them.

Gerald Yagen owns the Military Aviation Museum near Pungo. He told The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/11WmoYv) Monday he no longer has the money to keep his collection of World War I and II-era planes that is billed as one of the world's largest.

He says only nine groups visited the museum last week.

"I'm subsidizing it heavily every year and my business no longer allows me to do that financially, and therefore I don't have a solution for it," he said.

So far, he said he's sold two planes: a Boeing B-17, a heavy American bomber, and a Focke-Wulf 190, a single seat German plane. Both were used during World War II.

Yagen said he doesn't know how many planes he owns. Some in Virginia Beach have never been exhibited. He said he has other around the world that won't make it to Virginia Beach.

The Aviation Institute of Maintenance in Chesapeake and three other vocational trade schools Yagen owns have been acquired, he said."

It is typical of message boards to find new threads started by members who think they have a news flash that is so new and important that it MUST be shared immediately. If you're new to a forum, then you don't already know what's been said and what hasn't. And search functions only work if they key into specific words. It's easy to miss something even you do look it up.
So, I'm not nearly as harsh on people and never bust them for not looking up that which I already knew...

"The Tillamook Air Museum, in cooperation with owner and operator Jack Erickson, do hereby announce the acquisition of a WWII B-17G Bomber “Chuckie” and a German Focke-Wulf 190 to its growing collection of historic flying airplanes. The B-17 will make its journey from the east coast to Tillamook this Saturday and is excepted to arrive on Monday (weather dependent). The FW 190 will soon to follow.

This is certainly good news for warbird enthusiasts on the West Coast, particularly as the Tillamook Air Museum is an institution that maintains their craft in flying condition and gives the public the opportunity to see these historic craft where they were meant to be, in the air."

Has Tillamook got a P-47? I thought they sold their first one a couple years back.

They purchased Butch Schroeder's P-47 a few years ago and have kept it flying. (It used to seem like Tillamook was always painted as a museum where airworthy aircraft went to just sit around and become static displays, but ever since they started having a nice online presence, that has certainly been shown not to be the case.)
