Indy air show cancelled...permanently

Per the website and Facebook announcement last night the committee has said they will not be producing any more airshows after 16 years.

Although the warbird ramp had thinned in the last few years this was still a great show to go to, and this was one of few larger shows that were left in this area. The next closest warbird heavy show for me is Thunder Over Michigan and it's a six hour drive. I sure hope they can resolve whatever issues are going on and be back at some point in the future.

Wow - that is too bad. I have a feeling that the cut backs of the US Military support will have an "effect" on many shows. Some shows will fold, others will adapt and hopefully the folks who attend them will adapt to a different format as well.

It is sad for the people in that area, but in the long run it is probably better to thin out the air shows that may have been borderline. At one time last year there were originally three air shows not that far apart with a major warbird emphasis the same weekend in June (Indianapolis, Hamilton, ON and Thunder Over Michigan). Ultimately only Hamilton was held that weekend.

Having somewhat of a smaller assortment of major air shows with warbirds will probably be better. I think that Hamilton, Dayton, Oshkosh, Thunder Over Michigan and some other air shows will provide a great venue for warbirds in 2014 for the Midwest area. And when you look at shows like TICO, Chino, Winston-Salem, Wings Over Houston and several others there are some outstanding warbird shows that will survive in other parts of the country also.

I flew in that show 2-3 times great show and great people!

I'm very sad to learn of this. While living in Fort Wayne in the late 1980's this show was a "regular" for my wife and I.

I remember seeing my first MIG-15 and PV2 Neptune fly at those shows!

I have heard from a number of folks that there will not be a show in Hamilton in 2014. I hope they are wrong.

I hope that is wrong too. Great shows there in 2012 and 2013. The only way this could maybe not be a bad thing necessarily is if they went to an every other year schedule and perhaps took a year off to get ready for a show in 2015 at which time their Avenger and possibly their Tracker could debut flying in the show.

That's what I've heard, although I understand the CWH will be going back to their old Father's Day Weekend event, which is still definitely worth the trip if you're relatively close.

Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is definitely hosting a special flying event on the Father's Day 2014 weekend.

The current plan includes all of the Museum's flying aircraft with support from special invited guests. These guest aircraft will be of the historically significant and rare warbird variety.

Planning is well along - several aircraft have been booked and we've already applied for our SFOC (Special Flight Operating Certificate).

We will be making several announcements over the next few months about this event and several other not to be missed events that are being planned for 2014 at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.
