Howdy

hope everyone is having a safe festive season.

I'd like some help tracking down some history on a P-40E US serial 41-36761 which I believe was a RCAF bird.

Any constructive feedback is appreciated

Hi Peter

Away from home at present, once I return (in a couple of days) I'll see what history I have. Just quickly though, that serial number looks like a very late P-40E-1 to me, if that is the case then not a RCAF bird.

If you have any further info then it would be helpful, such as at least the Model (H-87, P-40E-1, P-40K or later)

Regards

Buz

By doing a little math in my head using this as a reference, I come up with EV507 as the RAF serial number of 41-36761. Not sure if this helps at all.
From what I can see, she was not an RCAF Kittyhawk, as they were all AK***/AL***/ET*** serial numbers...no EV*** numbers.

From "Lend-Lease Aircraft in WWII" by Arthur Pearcy,

Contract DA-3
"ET100-EV699 Many diversions by ship direct to Australia and New Zealand, others by rail to Canada. Later diversions to SAAF. At least thirty-four were lost at sea in transit."

Thanks for these, but they already confirm what I had, that being the a/c most likely did not serve with RAF, RAAF, USAAC, SAAF etc.

The only option I have left is RCAF and given the markings on the remains, these confirm my suspicions.

Maybe one of those P-40's that was supposed to go to one place but got diverted to elsewhere and the paperwork is difficult to understand.
