One hour to go. I can sympathize with DryMartini, I've been in that position on eBay, it sucks. I'm getting ready to sell some parts on eBay in 2014, after I find more Seawolf turret parts for DanK and the Sperry parts for the USAFM. I guess I'll be getting an education on what it's like to be the seller. One thing's for sure, this end bell cap looks like prime ground for snipers. I suspect it's being watched by at least three off shore people. The last five minutes should be the most interesting. FWI DryMartini, I have not alerted anyone on my contact list to this listing. I would not do that to you. Good luck.
$362.00, a steal! Hope it went to a good home!
Just wondering if I'm reading this correctly. FWIW Absolutely NO negative thoughts towards anyone for any reason.
Let me see if I get this straight. Was it wrong for someone to post a thread on WIX about an airplane part for sale on Ebay? Why is that? How would he/she know someone here is after that part? I get the point about this is WIX and there's people who would be interested, but I only see Nathan's post as a good thing, but maybe I'm missing something. Did he ruin a chance for someone to purchase this part much cheaper by posting it here?
The part is on ebay, it's gotten a lot of looks no matter whether it was brought to WIX's attention or not. Warbird people everyday, that have nothing to do with WIX, search ebay for parts such as this.

What position? and what sucks? not trying to stir anything up here just want to understand what you guys are talking about. If I come across a warbird part on ebay or elsewhere for sale shall I not bring it to anyone's attention here on WIX? I haven't a clue who is involved or not with warbirds and who is looking for certain parts or not. Go ahead educate me so I don't screw up.
If Martini's group is after it I too hope they get it as well without losing an engine. Sounds like the best place for it.

Let me be very clear, Nathan absolutely did the right thing by posting the eBay link on this forum. One of the best things about this wonderful forum that Scott has created is that it allows us to exchange information about warbirds. I suspect that is why Scott named it WARBIRDS INFORMATION EXCHANGE!
That "position" being a bidding war for a much needed or at least much desired part on eBay. If you think a Sperry Ball Turret End Bell Cap is rare, try searching for WWI Liberty V-12 engine parts that can be used for an engine that is intended to make a DH-4 fly to Oshkosh and back. So "I've been there, it sucks" means exactly what it appears to mean.
Having said that I should also say that I did contact the seller and explain what the part actually was. I also told him it was very rare and that there was a very small but determined market for it. Since I saw it come up on the WIX Facebook page, I more or less figured that the information would get out there to a wider audience. For whatever reason, based on the sale price, that's not what happened. Yesterday, the market price for that part was $364.00 and that's how our system works. In my opinion, somebody got a great deal.
