Derelict Convairliner in Fredericktown, Ohio?

I didn't think that N8048X was cut up that far back. Maybe a check with a local airport, neighbors, city officials, Fredericktown area junk yards, etc. could produce a clue...just sayin'..

leon, I had heard that the nasa convair was pulled over by the staties for not being safely secured for transport, & it was just sitting their at the side of the road for a fair amount of time. i'm sure paolucci got his $$$ for the scrap, but it seems pretty dumb that who ever bought it didn't junk it to recoup his purchase price, & just let it rot a lot more further.

Tom - I wonder if one were to track down Mr. Paolucci and ask him whom picked up the sections might shed more light on the situation. WIX troops will track this down...

yes leon it was that far back. when I sent pics of the butchering & sent them to air classics w/ my comments. I kept my magazine blurb for my files. i'll ask paolucci what he knows of the disposition & final demise circumstances of both convairs, i'm their fairly often.

I think the T-29 wound up at a scrap dealer in downtown Lorain. When I finally heard of its demise, I was able to pick up a couple of parts, but most of the bird was already cleaned, ready for melt-down...

Walter may have been aware of it being there. He was in and out of Ortner's to pick up DC-7 during 1978 and I have a photo of T-29 in hanger dated 1980. I think the Convair NASA 707 came in a later time...
