PELELIU ...

Well folks I'm getting requests for this type of thing (glad to do it) and in trying to stick to the "WIX Warbird" deal here I'm making sure to cover as much of the aviation that occured during these campaigns as possible in these threads. I can tell you this though, these photo series are spectacular and essential for those of you who care about this type of history IMO. Check back in because you've seen nothing yet!!!

I read about Peleliu in "With the Old Guard" by Eugene Sledge. It was a nightmarish battle to put it mildly. I can't even put into words what that experience must have been like.

Fantastic pics..thanks for posting. The modern shots are especially poignant.

It's hard to explain..those marines look so young, yet so old at the same time.
