Kinda diggin' on that oblique barbette gun in the waist of that B-37 pop2
The XC-35 painted green and covered in fish scales to replicate ice, was used in 'Dive Bomber'

Thanks again Mark
The photo of the tricycle C-40B is interesting
Wiki
Three other Lockheed 12s were used to test tricycle landing gear.[18] These had their normal landing gear replaced by a non-retracting version with a large nosewheel and with the main wheels shifted further back on the engine nacelles.[18] (The tailwheel from the normal conventional gear was retained.[18]) The gear was non-retractable because there wasn't room within the structure to stow it in retracted position.[13] Streamlined fairings were placed on the gear to reduce drag. One of the tricycle gear Lockheed 12s went to the U.S. Navy as the XJO-3 and performed carrier landing tests on the USS Lexington to study the suitability of a twin-engined tricycle-gear aircraft for carrier operations.[17][18] Another went to the U.S. Army as the C-40B, and still another was retained by Lockheed for its own testing; both of these were eventually converted back to the normal landing gear configuration.[17][18]

...And here I always thought that the Lockheed Sirius was a one-off for Charles Lindbergh. Thanks for showing these!

I've seen the ground shot of the XB-38 before (it looks like a big R/C model from that angle), but not the inflight shot - which raises the question: what's with that larger lower turret? It looks like a replacement for the early remote unit, but the little windows and bubble are still there. Was that an "improved" version of that unit which was rejected in favor of the ball turret?

I think it was just a dummy turret with the same dimensions as the Sperry Ball, installed for test purposes.

I remember the first time I heard the CWH Lancaster running up. Up until then, every four-engine bomber I'd ever heard had radials. Hearing a WWII "heavy" with inlines took some getting used to.

Interesting shots of the early AC-130, had never seen her in those non-camo colors.

Except that the Y1C-23 is really a modified Altair 8D. Sirius was a fixed gear design while the Altair was the same wooden fuselage with a retract gear wing. The C-23 was a Lockheed Detriot, DL-2A all metal fuselage on an Altair wing. It was crashed several times and modded during rebuilds. If you look closely at the pictures, you will see it with a blown canopy and a tail skid, and the early main gear. Another picture shows it with the tailwheel and early main gear and a segmented canopy. The last picture shows it back with a blown canopy, the late gear, big tail and the big motor.

The Army also bought the prototype Altair 8D, which was a wood fuselaged Altair and flew it as the Y1C-25
