Interesting. I've no idea of any of the behind-the-scenes politics going on here, but you would think that Boeing might want to support preservation of their own heritage closer to home in Seattle.

I know they do, but that doesn't influence D.C. politics much!

It might prompt the NASM to finally display a B-17, B-47, B-52, or space permitting, 747?
Allow me to briefly make my usual rant...how can any museum that purports to tell the nation's aviation heritage NOT have a B-17 on display?

For years Boeing had a billboard at the Dayton airport so people leaving the terminal would see it. It's words and illustration was changed every couple of years.

My favorite was a great shot of a B-17. It read "Visit the U.S. Air Force Museum...WE ARE THERE...Boeing"

The B-17 Shoo Shoo Baby is headed for the NASM as soon as the restoration of the Memphis Belle is complete.

They've left it a bit late.
Too bad most of the crews and builders of the aircraft won't be alive to see it when it finally gets its proper recognition.

Having said that, it's great to have a combat vet in the NASM. Frankly, with its fame, I'm surprised they didn't get The Memphis Belle.

I wonder if they will re-restore it and put it back into natural metal before it goes on display. They seem pretty keen on authenticity in the NASM these days.
