Great list,

I love seeing stuff like this. It is too bad that for the most part, folks "back in the day" didn't take into consideration the idea of actually keeping the more unique stuff around...even if it was one of a kind testbeds or prototypes.

Just to confirm there are 1 X complete Vengance at Camden Museum NSW Australia and enough parts to build 2X vengances at Wangarrata in storage pending a rebuild - There are rumors of other bits in Western Australia and PNG so I guess there could be more but thats it for now as known

Actually, the consideration was there..but the dollars were sparse on
mechanics and historians payscale, in spite of their fervor. I remember
a lot of transient aircraft, components and support gear moving residence
in backyards in the 60's....machines changing hands at packrat prices or
services traded....ahhh..I love a musty barn!!

Sole-Surviving American WWII Aircraft


This may be fudging, but could we add the following:

Douglas O-46A 35-179 at NMUSAF
Martin B-10 (export Martin 139W) at NMUSAF

since there were O-46s and B-10s in the Philippines at the start of the war, and the Dutch still had some Martin 139s in Java, and...

..don't forget the Pima 'Jeep', she's bent-n-crumpled..but she's do-able.

assured us she was in line but there were projects ahead of 'er.

It's the Jeep that went searching for a missing Stearman, but found itself
on the 'bad end' of a box canyon on the side of a mountain in 1943.

Went back over my notes..the AT-9 is in long-term storage but will
eventually 'get got to'.

I didn't include the AT-9 for a reason...two exist. There's one at the NMUSAF.

The AT-12 is essentially a P-35...at least, I keep it in my P-35 list...I think (can't remember right off the top of my head...that there's what...hmm three P-35s? NMUSAF, Weeks, Sweden)

From the looks of the Pima AT-9, one could hardly call it a survivor. If my
memory serves me correctly the Arizona rocks did a pretty good job of
testing the sheet-metal mechanics religion when they finally get around to
her. This is one of those cases where I wish museums would archive
complete photos of their 'ladies in waiting' projects available on the net.
It would make it easier on us bean-counters, as well as making the public
at large aware of where some left over bits-n-bobs need to go.

I'll send James a pm tonight to see how much of the bird remains.
