I have posted these before but this seems a proper thread in which to share them again. All of these photos were provided to me by the late Gerald Martin.

Just in case you don't know the 2 suited guys, in the middle is German Ace Adolf Galland & on the right is RAF Ace Bob Stanford Tuck, both worked as advisers on the film having both flown in combat during the Battle of France and then the Battle of Britain.

I seem to recall, following the notes I put in the blogpost lined to above, that there are different editions of the 1960s Pan book, without[?] the colour stills from the film. I've also been told that my friend the late Robert Rudhall's books were republished, and with changes (and sadly errors).

There's also plenty of other magazines and brochures with images from the film, and a few books like the aforementioned CAF publication with a little bit in them on it.

I'd love the book, either the first or second versions, but note the price on Amazon..$263.00!

yeah, sometimes sellers get a little nuts. I've found if you periodically look for the title you can find it cheaper.

Who are the two cowboys? The one on the right looks like a young Dale Dye. Is that Connie Edwards?

There's a warbird-load of vintage testosterone in that photo.
Classic photo of varying personalities and loyalties as well. Would have been quite something to have been able to listen in on that conversation.

I was thinking the same thing Mark! I lament that I only got to know Gerald towards the very end as I could have spent years listening to the stories of his exploits.

As a related aside, last months issue of Aeroplane Monthly magazine, carried an article written by a gent who was a serving RAF officer at the time the movie was made and was seconded to fly Spitfire's in the film ! There are some of his own photo's,taken at the time, to accompany the article.

I was 8 years old & on vacation at my grandparents in Essex. One day I'm down at the beach crabbing & some bloke comes over to see what I've caught. Turned out to be Guy Hamilton, the movie director taking a break from filming.

Great movie. It was on TV last week sometime as I was flicking through channels, my 15 y/o daughter was on the couch and after a few minutes I noticed she was LOOKING UP FROM HER iPHONE! I explained that those were actual airplanes in the film and not CGI. She has an interest in film making and she was pretty amazed at the film work, that they actually filmed from other aircraft and kept the "good" guys and "bad" guys in the shot together as well as they did.

"They need to remake that movie today in high def and with digital cameras, that'd be cool!"...I explained that coming up with the He-111s would be a bit of a challenge.

For me this is a defining image of the Battle. The strain on Squadron Leader Sandy Lane's face is for all to see.
