Re: 8 P-40s scheduled for the Fall Fly Days @ Cavanaugh...

This show is being held in conjunction with the Pontiac Southern Nationals. As a Pontiac and P-40 fan this just about blew my mind. My two favorites combined. I wish I could be there, it's going to be an awesome event.

The rear decking can be reinstalled in 5709. The Liberty Foundation had it removeable so they could do rides. It installs easily in minutes but also allows you to share the ride...which many appreciated.

I miss the airplane, glad it is being flown.

The VWoC one can also be reverted to its original look.

I know that two-seater conversions make good monetary sense for the operators, but I can't find it in my heart to love the way they look.

Just two cents, guys.

I believe there are more than a few P-40s flying around now with this addition of a second seat, BUT retaining the original decking that can be reinstalled in short order. Does anyone know if this is true?

The original looking panels do exist for this airplane and they can be bolted in quite easily to give an original appearance. (On a side note, that is Ray Fowler flying the plane in the picture, which was taken shortly before we did the two seat conversion)

AK940 received the 2-seat treatment during her rebuild in New Zealand, though I've yet to see a photo of her without the 'decking' since she came back to the States.

I need to update this page from my site, but there's one shot taken in NZ that shows the 'decking' removed:

Man, I wish I could make it to this event... Geneseo back in 2008 was a thrill, seeing five Hawks in one place... eight would be super-groovy.

Anyone who does attend and who grabs some photos, please contact me as I'd love to create a page on my site for this event.

There is some discussion of the NZ 2-seat mod in Dave Homewood's interview with Paul McSweeny of Pioneer Aero at 1h06m58s

ZK-CAG is offered for rides in NZ

At airshows it is normally in 2-seat config (sorry, Flickr seems to have recently broken photo embedding)

Here's an older photo in 1-seat config (I'm moderately sure that this was post-conversion)

Doesn't American Airpower's P-40M also have this modification?
