Witchcraft Loses an engine.

Tue Sep 23, 2014 4:53 pm

Looks like the Collings Foundation B-24 Witchcraft lost an engine at Worcester, MA. Repair crews are on the way as I write.

That's ok if they lose an engine, remember, Obi-wan Kanobi lost a entire planet..

From the old saw about pilot squawks:

"Complaint: Number three engine missing."

"Resolution: Number three engine found on starboard wing after brief search."

:P

Good luck to the crew getting it swapped out, I'm sure they'll make quick work of it.

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of airplane fans suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced by the sound of three engines instead of four. I fear something terrible has happened."

Bummer that it's necessary, but that's a good, quick turnaround by your techs! Seems like that would be a neat opportunity to film or photograph, to graphically illustrate what guys had to go through in the field when they lunched an engine during the war.

Cheers,

In 2012 while touring ,Witchcraft replaced # 1 engine at Valparaiso, Indiana. I think it was in early August.
Parts wear out.

When she was still "All American," I rode in her out of Tallahassee, Florida to Panama City and as soon as the gear went up, the # 4 shut down. I asked why and was told they needed to do an engine change but didn't wanna do it in Tallahassee (no shock, I didn't wanna do anything there either, which is why I left a few years later). They explained they could take off with just three, of course, but the FAA required all 4 turning on takeoff.
Probably caused some comments on the ground when people could make out # 4 feathered like that on approach. We went right in, no buzz jobs of the city like that.

I have heard that the #3 governor failed leading to a runaway engine. You probably will make metal after that though.....
