Static H-34 owened by former Marine pilot

Thu Oct 23, 2014 11:38 am

Up in Sandpoint, Idaho a Vietnam veteran former Marine pilot has bought, and is restoring, a H-34.
He's even written a book.
The story is in 2 parts...

Way cool! Nice to see one restored so nicely. Still heartbreaking to think of all those other H-34s that didn't make it out. :x :?

Chris

I see you're from the land of Sikorsky...is there anything the factory can do for him...a manual or perhaps just a letter saying "Thanks for preserving history"?

Well, while we are definitely in the neighborhood (down the road) we don't really have that much of a in-house persuasion or pull from the "Big S". We have more than a few Sikorsky retirees that bust their hump at the museum, and while they still have connections at the plant, there all more or less informal. We haven't received any real acknowledgment from the main office yet. Were hoping sooner than later, but you never know. Hey, we were invited to be apart of this year's Sikorsky Day so thats a step in the right direction. Maybe next year we'll be able to display one of our projects!

While I'm not sure if Sikorsky would write a letter or something, I know we would! Especially considering we have a UH-34 of our own that will need ALOT of work when we finally start work on her. We may have some manuals or something. Drew King probably knows better than I do.

Thanks for the tip, John. I just ordered his book and it looks to be a good read. I still find it ironic that all the metal from those H-34's scrapped in Tucson a few years ago was sold to Vietnam.
