Since you ask ... if I had my druthers on Herks, I'd do a C-130H wearing European Two camo, just like 85-0040 from my old squadron. Herks from approximately 1984-1990 were delivered by Lockheed in this scheme, however the supply chain seemed to only stock the camo paint shades for Euro One. As you can see in the pic below, the nose has already had some repaint to the lighter shade whereas the area aft of the wing is (mostly) factory original. The only unit I knew of who took the time to match the colors correctly for repainting was the Milwaukee Reserve - and their airplanes always looked very sharp.
Rivet counters will note that the tail still says AFRES, not the later "AFRC". Also of note is the US flag, added fleet-wide after the April 1992 shootdown of a US Herk by the Peruvians. This scheme is just how our airplanes looked as we began Operation Provide Promise, the UN humanitarian airlift support of Sarajevo and Bosnia at large. Those events are largely forgotten and, although I went on to log time in Iraq & Afghanistan, I still look back on our airlift accomplishments in Bosnia with pride.
So Herks might be boring to some, but there's more than meets the eye at first glance with this one; there's detail, history, and the accomplishments of many embodied in this airplane. Replicating the finish & weathering might be a fun challenge. If you'd ever like to pursue it, I have more pics and details I could share.
