Picked up another Yoke Cap

Mon Dec 08, 2014 4:58 am

After buying a B17 Yoke Cap a few months ago. I saw this B29 Yoke Cap for sale, and knew they are even more rare than the B17 caps, so I had to buy it, even though it was a little more than I wanted to spend.

Came from a good seller, and reproductions on the market have slight differences from originals, so I know I bought a good one. Still has the locking tabs on the back as well.

Thanks. While researching these B29 caps, there's actually three variations I found with originals.

Ones like mine with a plain back.

There's ones with reinforced back tabs.

And there's ones with a back that has a raised mold number and another part number sticker.

Though with how rare these are and how there's not a HUGE market for them, there aren't many pictures.

yes they are rare, & not many pics as you stated, which means the true rarity & historical significance of the cap. they are highly sought after in our circle of aviation memorabilia collectors.

There seems to have been a spree of very nice Boeing caps on eBay recently, including one with claimed provenance from Enola Gay. This is my favourite cap, hand painted from a 48th Fighter Squadron P38:

The yoke caps of any vintage usually pop up every couple months I've noticed, but the B-29 one I bought is the first one I've seen this year. They are becoming harder and harder to find. A couple months ago when I bought my B-17 cap, I missed out on a B-24 Consolidated Vultee Made By Ford cap.
