A U.S. Navy Vought F4U-4 Corsair of Bombing Fighter Squadron 82 (VBF-82) "Checkmates", piloted by Bud Geer, is preparing to take off from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Randolph (CV-15). VBF-82 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 82 (CVG-82) for a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 22 October to 21 December 1946. During that cruise, VBF-82 was redesignated VF-18A and CVG-82 was redesignated CVAG-17 on 15 November 1946. Date 4 December 1946 -

A captured German Henschel Hs 129B (Wk.Nr. 0385) at Freeman Army Airfield, Indiana, in 1946. It was allotted for storage at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona (USA) but had to be force-landed at Gallatin, Tennessee, on 24 July 1946 while being ferried to Davis-Monthan. The aircraft ran out of fuel due to suspected tank leakage and was slightly damaged during the subsequent forced landing. It was taken to No. 803 Special Depot (Orchard Place) on 5 August 1946. When the storage depot was required for other purposed during the Korean War, FE-4600 was put up for disposal as scrap. Only the nose section was saved from a scrap yard. Date 1946 -
On 21 July 1946 Lt.Cmdr. James Davidson, USN, conducted the first trials of the McDonnell XFD-1 Phantom fighter aboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVB-42). He made several landings and takeoffs without catapult. In 1947 the company letter of McDonnell was changed by the U.S. Navy from "D" to "H" and the "FD" consequently became the "FH" fighter. A formation of U.S. Navy aircraft from Carrier Air Group 3 (CVG-3) in flight in 1946. In front is a Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat flown by the Air Group Commander (CAG), Cdr. Louis H. Bauer, followed by a Curtiss SB2C-5 Helldiver (from VB-3), a Grumman TBM-3E Avenger (VT-3) and a Grumman F8F-1 Bearcat (VF-3). Date 1946 -
U.S. Navy Vought F4U-4 Corsair fighters from Fighting Squadron VF-75 Gay Blades and Curtiss SB2C-4E Helldivers of Torpedo Squadron VT-75 Fish Hawks fly over the the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVB-42). Both squadrons were assigned to Carrier Air Group 75 (CVBG-75) aboard the FDR for a cruise in the Western Atlantic from 19 April to 25 May 1946. Note the unusual display of the squadron designation on the tail fins. Date 5 May 1946 -
