Andrews Air Force Base, Md. (May 21, 2005) - An aerial view of the Andrews Air Force Base flight line from the U.S. Army Parachute Team, the “Golden Knights” C-31 jump plane as it climbs to 12,500 feet during the first public day of the 2005 Joint Service Open House. The Open House, held May 20-22, showcased civilian and military aircraft from the Nation’s armed forces which provided many flight demonstrations and static displays.

Instead of that being an airplane off to the right, could that be a tank and we're looking at the backside of turret?

The pic at NAS Cubi Point is the VRC-50 (FooDogs) flight line, you can see the C130, two C2's a C1 and the T39. The quonset hut at the far left was for the VQ-1 cubi det. spent many a months there when I was in VQ-1, always had our EA3B Skywarriors, EC-121 Willys and EP-3E Orions transiting thru, there was always cold San Miguel beer in the hut

Is that a Cessna OE-2 next to the Ford Tri-Motor?
I didn't think there were any left...or at least flying.

For those of you not up to speed on very obscure Cessnas...the OE-2 was a Bird Dog variant but with wings and tail of a 180.. Think of a Cessna 180 with the "Omni-vision" cabin. Only 25 built for the USMC in 1956.

I've always checked out the background of photos in books and magazines. Often, they're more interesting than the main subject.

The Andrews photos take me back. In 1996 I was flying a Bell 47 (a former OH-13E) and the owner/instructor were invited to fly it to Andrews for the open house. We were treated like semi-VIPs. they parked us next to the SR-71.

At the far left, that looks like a clipped-wing P-39 racer! Cool...

Depending on what year this photo was taken, I'm pretty sure that's Russ Hosler's clipped wing P-63. In 1949 it was painted black with yellow wingtips. The rear cockpit glass was covered with aluminum and painted yellow too. It ran the same type of experimental 3-bladed paddle prop that Cobra II/KF-1 ran with Chuck Brown in 1948. IIRC, Hosler's P-63 DNQ in 1949 due to engine problems.
