Just read on Facebook that the F6F Hellcat owned for many years by TFC is headed to a new owner in the U.S. - it showed a picture of it on a lowboy trailer headed to be put on a ship...

Since Comanche Fighters already has one (but two is always better) - I was thinking maybe Rod Lewis, Texas Flying Legends or Jim Slattery... With all the involvement between Steve Hinton / Planes of Fame and The Fighter Collection over the years - it would be awesome for it to end up at Chino !!! I guess time will tell...

I believe when the Arsenal of Democracy Flyover had a listing for individual planes there was a Hellcat attributed to Rod Lewis as an attendee.

Linked from the Fighter Collection's Facebook Page:

Interesting that it left Duxford on a lowboy trailer. The P-47s and P-40 left in a shipping container...

Rumors of two Hellcats participating in that flyover.

I made a very similar statement a couple months back when the news first broke that the Hellcat would be returning to the USA. I know it is probably a long shot but it would be fantastic if PoF did end up with it.

Hellcat won't fit in a standard shipping container, at least not without significant disassembly. What was Leroy Grumman thinking?

Is this the one? Photographed at Chino in 1978, reportedly went to TFC. 80141 was N[R]100TF at the time

Hello again everyone! My first username was erased when they updated this sight years ago (not that I posted that much anyways), and want to say "Thanks" to everyone for the countless hours of reading and education.

As for the mysterious new owner of the Hellcat, it was mentioned on another forum that one of the hands at TFC had the opportunity of "showing a wealthy Texan around it at Goodwood".

I know Planes of Fame traded and sold a few aircraft from their collection. Are there any surviving Hellcats that were former POF Maloney aircraft? I would like the Bob Pond Hellcat sold and returned to airworthiness.
