What is involved in bringing a B-17 to our airport?

Hi

A`Shi@$Oad of money, an interesting event and a motivated owner- preferably at a time when there are other events nearby when the aircraft can attend multiple events. Also if it is one which takes paying customers a gurantee of passengers would be nice and some fuel sponsorship , accomodation etc?

If your airport has an EAA chapter they could put in a request to get Aluminum Overcast to visit or you personally could put in a request to host a 2007 tour stop on the Collings Foundation's Wings of Freedom Tour with the B-17 & B-24. You can do it on their website www.cfdn.org. Hope this helps!

The Collings Foundation would likely bring both the B-17 and the B-24 if they incorporate your town into the Wings of Freedom Tour. Most likely 2006 is pretty much booked, but it's good to contact them. They need good volunteers to plan the stop. Arranging parking, discounted fuel, free or cheap lodging and transportation are all important factors. Also getting media attention can be tough, so it takes some time and hard work, but the benifits are great.
They have the info all on their website about being a "Tour Stop Coordinator". Look into it, it's a blast if you have the time.

there's quite a few organizations with touring B-17's. Your best bet is to find the org closest to you and start talking with them about their schedule. At this point in the year a lot of dates have already been booked up, but it doesn't hurt to call, e-mail, etc.

Don't quote me on any of the following. I don't handle booking, but I know a few things second-hand that may help you on your quest. I believe some org's will waive the appeareance fee they charge in exchange for giving FLEX rides. It all depends on the specifics of your show / event. You're probably going to have to pay for gas (three thousand or so gallons. If you're in New York, you're probably not going to want to book somebody from Chino, CA), lodging for aircrew (Up to ten people? Not sure how everyone else does it.) if they're going to be there overnight, and perhaps an appearance fee.

I would try CAF AZ wing and Collings. They would be the two most likley, net would be Liberty Foundation. The EAA would be a hard one, and the rest would want atleast $5,000 plus gas.

THUNDER OVER MICHIGAN

The Az Wing of the CAF tours its' B-17 "Sentimental Journey" around the country and ends up in Midland Tx every year for the Airshow there around the first of October. You may want to call Boyd Devin on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays at 480 924-1940. He could give you the necessary info and whether or not it would fit into their schedule. Temple isn't too far from Midland.
