Digital SLR Accessories - Flash Cards

So what do you use in your Digital SLR? i.e. What size, 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB or 2 GB? Do you own a number of flash cards or do you have just a few and a CD burner someplace?

I have 4 512MB cards, so I don't get all my pictures unto one device.

I also have an iPod photo with the camera connector to download the pictures into it.

I haven't tried it yet though... Will do very shortly and will report on the results!

I have 3 1GB cards that I normally use, plus a 512mb for when I need some extra space. I'll probably be picking up another 1 or 2 1GB cards before this airshow season starts. I try to make sure I have enough CF cards on me for a days shooting.

Another thing you may want to keep in mind is the speed of the cards. Lexar's standard cards have a write speed of 600kb/s(or at least they did the last time I looked at them). I have been using Sandisk Ultra II cards which have a write speed of 9mb/s. For normal shooting it probably doesn't make that much of a difference, but the perception is that the camera is much more responsive. Where the faster cards really shine is in shooting continuous sequences, the faster the card the more images you can shoot in a sequence.

I have a 2gig CF card primarily plus a 256kb one as a backup, want to get a couple of 1gig ones though. I also have an IAudio X5 MP3 player that I can use to store pics if needed as well as my laptop.

Currently I have only 1 gig flash card. It’s a Lexmart 80X card. Works great but every so often the card kills a picture on me, I've lost a few really nice shots too (like a line up of 8 B-17 tails with no people in it :evil:

).

I'd like to get another 1 gig just in case my current card crashes.

I honored to be able to down load all my pictures to Scotts laptop at airshows :lol:

But I plan to buy one for the bakery that I could use on weekends or trips.

I have two 1GB cards, and I am thinking about purchasing maybe one or two more, just in case, as also as a storage solution if there is too much good stuff to shoot during a particular outing.

I have had my eyes on the 28-300mm lens for a while now, and eventually I will take the step to purchase it.

Couldn't be happier with the 70-200mm and coupled with the 1.2x converter, I can get pretty decent shots from afar.

If I could haul a Celestron telescope with an adaptor, then I wouldn't even need to get inside the airports to obtain some shots! : )

Since the IRS Return fairy hasn't paid me a visit yet, I'm still stuck with my 3.3 megapixel Nikon 995. But it it's CF, and I've learned one thing: If you've got 'em, bring em.

I have 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128 meg CF cards, and the only reason I don't bring 'em all in the camera bag is because there's usually one or two that are MIA :lol:

With that many cards, they're obviously not all the same brand. I've had no bad experiences with brands. Just kinda be ready for them to fail, as they eventually will. I also suggest bringing a laptop & connecting cable (actually, a spare) with you to any "event" where it's feasable.

Never, ever, go somewhere with cards that are half full. You'll run out of disk space just as someone tells you there's an open spot in the nose on "Fifi", and it's yours if you want it. The pictures you took of Reese Witherspoon in the shower the night before will be on your full and only card. This is the Tao of Digital photography. Accept it.

I tried to download the pictures from the camera to the iPod yesterday, and I have to confirm that it works really well!

So, I have an extra 14GB (there's already 4GB of music in there) of space where to put pictures...

I have three SanDisk Ultra II 2.0 gb CF cards, no problems so far. Now I need a portable device to download them to for the big air shows. Would rather not carry a laptop with me, if avoidable. Any suggestions?

I've got 4 x 2Gb Sandisk Extreme III cards and a 40 Gb Epson P2000 portable storage device that I use to backup and clear down cards for re-use. The Extreme III's are fast enough to make using RAW much more practical.

Right now I carry 7 cards. 2-2GB's, 4-1GB's and a 512MB. All of them are Sandisk Ultra II's. I don't want to download until I get back to the hotel, or home, if possible. The batteries on portable HD's die fast, although you can get a car lighter adapter.

I also have a 20GB Tripper. It is virtually useless unless plugged into AC power. The battery will die before you even get a 1GB card downloaded to it.
